I mean that's just a limit in the .gif format, if you look it up you can see that gifs cannot have transparency. Also 16k pixels is a lot, I'm curious for what project you need more resolution than that?
ive just downloaded this generator, ill be using it in a space themed incremental game, but i cant understand why, if i export two spritesheets in the same 5 minutes, the second one will replace the first one, leaving me with only one spritesheet, the last one
Incredible work btw, i was just looking for something like this and then ur planet and backgorund generator came out and saved the day
Oh that's probably because the filename is just whatever the seed is, maybe it would be better to add a timestamp too yeah You're very welcome, I hope you made something nice with it!
I said it last year, but I'm saying this again: awesome job with this and the shader code behind it.
I eventually found the gameplay to use it + your background generator and I'm releasing Aeons of Rebirth on Steam soon (Beta next week, release before end of year).
> Is it a bit of a tactical game? Looks interesting.
I wanted it to be an incremental game like Digseum, so it's not really tactical, as you can't "lose". It's just a matter of how fast you gather resources to move forward in the prestige system and the story; depending on your choices, in terms of skill tree and how you set up your logistic routes.
The new trailer on the Steam page is more representative of what the gameplay is.
And BTW, I got over 2000 upvotes on a sub, which is big, I guess mainly because of your shaders, so again it's really cool <3 It's like the ultimate space game asset pack with modularity and it's free!
Ohh I'll go check your web version today, it's super cool you already have a demo going. I just checked the comments on the sub and thank you for giving me credit everywhere, that's so nice of you!
Thought id share my take on using generated asteroids by creating a atlas with cached rotations, normalmaps and subdivided chunkpieces.
Got my own system, but im still hoping for height or normal maps being a possibility in the future for this program! Thank you for making my gamemaking hobby easier
That's really cool, so you precomputed all the normal maps? The result looks fantastic, makes me want to try something similar lol. Very well done, I'm glad the generator could be of use!
Yeah exactly! I rotate a single sprite and normal map by a index. Then add a script to fix the normals from the cached rotations, since the normals on the original are static.
Thank you for this absolute masterpiece. Your shaders have become the visual soul of the worlds in my 4X game. Your talent is matched only by your generosity in sharing this with the community.
That's awesome and thank you very much for your kind words! Projects like that is why I like sharing it with everyone. Good luck with the rest of your game!
I just released a game where we made heavy use of this generator as well as your space background generator. Thank you for making this! https://cache31522.itch.io/project-kardashev
Is there a way to get an exported GIF to match the preview speed? I try to export but they're either really choppy or really fast. Other than that, I do love this tool.
Yeah! You just have to calculate how many frames the GIF needs. For example if you want it to do one rotation over 5 seconds, you'd want maybe 5*60=300 frames
Maybe you can get away with less FPS, depends on how smooth you want it.
I'm using your background generator too :) I edited them to fit the pallet and loop seamlessly. your planet generator was an influence to the very story of this game lol
That's awesome, I really like the style! You really created something beautiful, it reminds me of some nostalgic games :) Did you do the other assets in the game yourself?
Hello! I used this awesome tool of yours in my recent GMTK submission - probably my best looking game to date, and I accredit that success to you and your tool. A lot of nice things have been said about the visuals, and I made sure to credit you. Thanks for making this.
That's awesome to hear, congratulations on your game and well done! Don't give me all the credits though, you did all the hard work of making the game :) Thanks for sharing and I hope you liked making your game
Hi! Thank you so much for these pixel space generators (planets and backgrounds) as I used them in my GMTK Game Jam entry: Planet Looper (https://benbevan.itch.io/planet-looper). I keep getting compliments over the pixel art and have made sure you're credited throughout because, without you, my game probably wouldn't be as successful as it has been!
Oh my god you made it look so good with that CRT=like effect! Gotta try that for myself some time. Good job on the game really! I'm glad it was so successful, and thanks for the credits <3
It does, but two things: - It has to render each frame, so it's tied to the framerate of the generator - Gif is just a very unwieldy file format, I use a library to convert it to a .gif, and perhaps there are speedups possible there If you get it working faster then let me know
Can there be a second slider for rotating along the other axis? Right now, there’s no way to have the north or south pole in view, such as for a top-down perspective.
Unfortunately not, since the planet is not a true 3D object. It's just a circle with some math on it, the planet does not have another perspective. Thanks for the suggestion though!

id like to use this for a commercial game for steam, if thats ok?
id like to put you in the credits as Deep-Fold if you dont prefer something else
Yes of course, it's all free to use! That credit sounds perfect
Good luck with your game and I'm curious to see it when it's done
Thank you!
this looks so cool and you made it free? wow
Yes all for you and everyone else who is cool ;)
too sad the GIf have no opacity..... sooo im stuck with the spritesheet generation and 16k pixel max!!

Very nice well done! Making an entire game is a huge task, so congratulations on that!
Is it a bit of a tactical game? Looks interesting.
I'm glad the program was useful, I hope the launch goes very well.

I'm glad the generator came in useful :)
If you're still curious on the genre, you can try the demo now in your browser :)

It's really nice, I played for until the first rebirth at least and it plays like a perfect idler. I really love the UI too, well done!
This is spectacular. Thank you so much!

WOW I really love the graphical style of your game, very nostalgic
You're welcome, well done on making the game it looks awesome!
Hello, thanks for giving us this awesome pixel planet generator :D.
I m using it to generate Planets for a Lancer campaign.
I ve one problem tho, i cant seem to export png with the downloadable version. Online it works like a charm.
I m running it on windows 11.
Thx in advance =).Oh interesting, I haven't tested it on windows 11 yet but I'll try that and fix it if it's broken, thanks for the report
For now I hope the online version is enough!
Glad you like it :)
cheese ball
Put Kirby on there

That's cool to hear! Would love to see your project if you end up using it

Love it
Thank you :)
We have used it in our jam game, Thanks!
I LOVE the added glow effect, thanks for sharing and good job on the game!
I utilized sprite sheets made in this generator in my first game. They look great. Thank you for making this!
Congratulations on making your first game, that's huge! I hope you enjoyed the process and I'm glad the generator came in useful
Does the exporting not process on the gpu? It takes a while to export the gif version, maybe I'll try to work on some improvements
It does, but two things:
- It has to render each frame, so it's tied to the framerate of the generator
- Gif is just a very unwieldy file format, I use a library to convert it to a .gif, and perhaps there are speedups possible there

Thank you for your work ,i am intending to build a kids game to learn solar system. Hope i will finish it.
I wish you a lot of luck with it, that seems like a cool project! I'd be interested in seeing it when it's done.

It seems the lava world has a texture bug on one side. Especially visible on high resolution while changing the light direction.
Unfortunately this is one of those things I can't seem to replicate. It's probably an issue with how the shader is executed on certain GPUs.
Thanks for the report, I'm not sure that I'll be able to fix that but it's good to know.
